Hybrid is one of the most popular floors for Gold Coast families, mostly because it copes with water and wear better than laminate or timber.
Hybrid is a good choice for pets and kids. It resists water, handles everyday scratches well when the wear layer is thick enough, and is quieter than tiles. It isn't scratch proof, so long claws and dragged furniture can still mark it.
What to look for
- A thicker wear layer for high traffic areas.
- A matt or textured finish, which hides scratches better than gloss.
- Mid tones, which show sand and pet hair less than very dark or very light floors.
- Attached or quality underlay for less noise from running feet and paws.
Sand, salt and wet feet
Near the beach, sand is the biggest cause of wear. A mat at each door and a regular sweep do more than any product choice. Spills and wet feet are fine if wiped up. Read is hybrid flooring waterproof.
Pricing
Supply and install is about $45 to $90 per m² as a general guide. The tougher, thicker products sit in the middle and upper part of that range. See hybrid flooring and flooring on the Gold Coast.
