Overview
A deck is only as good as what sits under the boards. We start with the footings and frame, choose fixings that suit the site, and then lay boards that will cope with Gold Coast sun, rain and, near the beach, salt air. We build ground-level decks, raised and elevated decks, pool decks and deck extensions, and we replace or repair decks that have started to fail. You can choose timber or composite, and we offer supply and install or install only if you already have the boards.

Our decking services
Most of our decking work falls into a few groups: new decks built from the ground up, replacements where an old deck has reached the end of its life, and repairs where part of the deck can be saved. We also extend existing decks and build decks for commercial sites. Whatever the job, the process is the same. We measure the site, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through materials. You then get an itemised, fixed written quote, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering or approval costs listed separately.
Timber decking
Hardwood is still the most popular choice for Gold Coast decks. Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt all look warm and natural, cost less up front than composite and can be sanded and re-oiled by the owner over the years. The trade-off is upkeep: in full sun most hardwood decks need oiling every 12 to 24 months to hold their colour. We frame timber decks in treated pine or hardwood depending on height and span, and we fix boards to suit the species and the exposure. For a closer look at species and finishes, see our timber decking page.

Composite decking
Composite boards cost more to buy but need far less maintenance. There is no oiling, they do not splinter, and good boards hold their colour well in UV. That makes composite a sensible choice for pool surrounds, upper-level decks that are hard to reach for maintenance, and homes near the beach. We supply and install Ekodeck and Ezy Decking boards, and we install other composite brands if you have already bought them. Composite needs the right joist spacing, expansion gaps and ventilation underneath, so we follow the board maker's installation guide. More detail is on our composite decking page.
Pool decking
A pool deck gets wet feet, chlorine or salt water and full sun every day of summer. We choose boards with good grip when wet, frame materials that handle moisture, and fixings that will not stain or corrode. Pool decks also sit close to the pool barrier, so heights, gaps and climbable zones need care. We plan the deck around the fence and work with your pool certifier where the barrier is affected. See pool decking for more.

Deck repairs and replacements
Not every tired deck needs to be pulled down. If the frame is sound, new boards can give it another long life. If joists, bearers or posts have rotted, or the deck was undersized to begin with, a rebuild is usually the better value. We inspect the frame before quoting and tell you which option makes sense. Repairs cover loose or split boards, rotten joists and bearers, failed posts and stirrups, and wobbly stairs and balustrades. See deck repairs and deck replacement for the detail on each.
Commercial decking
We build and replace decks for cafes, restaurants, retail fronts, office break-out areas and body corporate common areas. Commercial decks see heavy foot traffic, so board choice, fixings and slip resistance matter more than on most homes. We can stage work around trading hours, keep the site safe for staff and the public, and quote in the same way as residential work: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price. Property managers and landlords also use us for replacement decks on rental properties.

Decking materials and construction
The parts you cannot see do most of the work. Footings are sized to the soil and the deck height, and on sandy or reactive ground we may use screw piles. Bearers and joists are sized and spaced to the span tables and the board maker's requirements, and joist protection tape helps timber frames under composite last longer. Near the beach we use stainless or hot-dip galvanised fixings, because standard zinc fixings corrode quickly in salt air. Decks more than one metre above ground need a compliant balustrade, and higher or larger decks may need engineering and building approval. Where approval may apply, we say so in the quote and arrange the certifier. For pricing detail, read the decking cost guide.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a deck cost per square metre on the Gold Coast?
As a guide, timber decking runs about $350 to $550 per m² and composite about $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed. Height, access, the frame, stairs and balustrades all affect the final price, which is set in a fixed written quote after we measure.
Timber or composite decking: which suits the Gold Coast?
Hardwood costs less up front and looks natural, but needs oiling every 12 to 24 months in full sun. Composite costs more to buy but needs very little maintenance and holds colour well. For pool decks, coastal homes and hard-to-reach upper decks, composite is often the better long-term choice.
How long does it take to build a deck?
A typical residential deck takes one to three weeks on site once materials are on hand. Large, raised or complex decks take longer. If building approval is needed, that adds time before work can start.
Do I need approval to build a deck on the Gold Coast?
It depends on the height, size and location of the deck. Decks more than one metre above ground usually need building approval. We check this during the site measure and arrange a certifier where it applies.
Can you replace the boards on my old deck without rebuilding it?
Often, yes. If the frame is sound and sized correctly for the new boards, reboarding is usually the cheaper option. We inspect the frame first and only reuse it when its condition suits the new deck.
Do you install boards I have bought myself?
Yes. We offer install only for timber and composite boards you have supplied, as well as full supply and install.
Do you build commercial decks?
Yes. We build and replace decks for hospitality venues, retail, offices, body corporates and rental properties, and can plan the work around trading hours.
