Architraves and skirting are one job, and the intersection at the plinth is where a poor fit shows. Where door frames are out of plumb, packing and adjustment happen before the trim goes on rather than being hidden with filler.
Profile matching in older homes
Older Miami homes often have profiles that are no longer stocked. Heights, quirks and bevels are checked against the existing boards before anything is ordered.
Materials: MDF, pine and hardwood
Primed MDF is the standard choice for painted skirting because it is stable, straight and takes paint well. Pine suits areas where fixings need more hold, and hardwood suits stained finishes or heritage detail. In wet areas and coastal homes we discuss moisture-resistant options, since standard MDF does not forgive a leaking laundry or a wet mop.
Square-set, colonial and modern profiles
Profile choice sets the character of the room. Square-set and half-splayed boards read modern and clean, colonial and lambs tongue profiles suit traditional interiors, and a taller board generally makes a room feel higher. We bring samples to the site visit so you can see the options against your floor and wall colour rather than guessing from a catalogue.
Filling, caulking and paint preparation
The finish is in the preparation. Nail holes are punched and filled, joins are sanded flush, and the top edge is caulked to the wall so there is no dark line once the room is painted. If you are painting yourself we leave it ready to go, and if we are managing the paintwork it is scheduled straight after.
Single rooms and small jobs
Not every job is a whole house. Replacing the skirting in one bedroom, fixing a section damaged by a washing machine leak, or trimming out a new wall after a renovation are all normal work for us. Small jobs get the same set out and finish as large ones, and we price them honestly rather than padding for a short visit.
