Deck Lighting Ideas for Gold Coast Decks

Covered deck with lighting on the Gold Coast

Lighting is what makes a deck usable after dark, and it's much easier to plan while the frame is still open.

Types of deck lighting

  • Step lights: set into stair risers so every step is visible. The most useful light on any deck with stairs.
  • Recessed board lights: small round lights set into the deck surface.
  • Strip lighting: tucked under handrails, benches or the stair nosing for soft light.
  • Post cap lights: on top of balustrade posts.
  • Downlights: in the roof of a covered deck.

Plan before the boards go down

Cables and transformers are easiest to run while the frame is open. We set out where lights go with you, leave access and blocking in the frame, and your licensed electrician does the wiring. Low-voltage, outdoor-rated fittings are the norm near pools and the coast.

Composite and lights

Recessed lights need a clean hole and the right clearance in composite boards. Check the board maker's guidance first. See deck ideas for Gold Coast homes and our decking page.
