Heat, colour and fixings on a Gold Coast deck

Every composite board warms up in the sun, and darker colours get hotter. For a deck that cops full afternoon sun, or one you walk on barefoot around a pool, we usually steer people towards the lighter greys and timber tones. Under a roof or in a shaded courtyard, darker colours are fine. Composite also grows and shrinks with temperature more than hardwood does. We follow each board's gap rules at the ends, sides and against the house, so the deck does not buckle in a hot January.
