A good deck starts with how you'll use it. These are the ideas that come up most when we measure up decks across the Gold Coast.
Layout ideas
- Level with the living room floor, so the deck feels like another room.
- Wrap around a pool, with a wider area for loungers on the sunny side.
- Built-in steps that double as seating on sloping blocks.
- A deck section under a roof for dining, with an open section for sun.
- Room for an [outdoor kitchen](/blog/outdoor-kitchens-gold-coast-cost-ideas) close to the back door.
Board direction
Boards running away from the house make a deck look longer. Boards running across make it look wider. A picture frame border around the edge hides cut board ends and gives a finished look.
Choosing a composite colour
- Lighter greys and sandy tones stay cooler in full sun.
- Darker browns hide dirt but get hot on west-facing decks.
- Match the colour to the roof, window frames or render, not the showroom.
- Look at samples on site at the time you'll use the deck.
We build with Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Compare them in Ekodeck vs Ezy Decking, or see the composite decking page.
