Hanging a door properly is precision carpentry. The frame has to be plumb and square, the jamb packed and fixed without bowing, hinge mortices cut cleanly, clearances even top and bottom, and the strike plate positioned so the door pulls up tight without slamming. Done well, a door swings silently and stays where you leave it for twenty years. Done poorly, it binds within a season.

Internal doors: what upgrading actually changes

Most Gold Coast homes built through the 1990s and 2000s have hollow-core internal doors. Swapping to solid-core changes the feel of a house immediately - the door has weight, it closes with a solid sound instead of a rattle, and bedroom and study acoustics improve noticeably. It is one of the cheapest upgrades per unit of perceived quality in a renovation, especially paired with new lever hardware and matching hinges.

Entry doors and the coastal climate

An entry door on the Gold Coast has to deal with UV, driving rain and salt air. Solid timber doors need proper sealing on all six faces, including the top and bottom edges people forget, or they swell and stick.
