Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.
We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.
Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.
On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.
You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.
We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.
Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.
We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.
You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.
Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.
A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.
Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.
Composite boards are made from wood fibre and recycled plastic, pressed into a board shape. Most modern boards have a hard outer cap that protects the core from stains, fading and moisture. They do not rot, do not split, do not need oiling and do not give you splinters. That is why people choose them.
A composite deck still gets dirty. Pollen, leaves, sand and salt build up, and in shaded corners you can get mould on the surface. A wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush a few times a year keeps it looking right. Grease from a barbecue should be cleaned off quickly. Avoid metal shovels, rubber mats that trap moisture, and very high-pressure cleaning close to the surface.
Compared with hardwood, which needs oiling about once a year to hold its colour, it is much less work. But anyone who tells you it is zero maintenance is overselling it.
We mainly install Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Both are capped composite boards with hidden clip systems and a range of colours. Ekodeck is an Australian brand and Ezy Decking is widely available on the coast, so offcuts and replacement boards are easy to source later. If you have your heart set on another composite board, we can install it, as long as we can follow the manufacturer's installation guide.
Composite expands and contracts more with temperature than timber does. The clip systems allow for this, and the boards need end gaps that we set for the temperature on the day. Dark boards get hotter in the sun and move a little more, so in an exposed spot, a lighter or mid tone is more comfortable and stable.
A composite board on a poor frame will still sag and bounce. Composite boards usually need joists at closer spacing than many timber boards, often around 400 mm or less, and the joists need to be flat. We build frames from treated pine or hardwood and use joist tape on top to keep water off the timber. That tape is cheap and adds years to the frame.
Composite usually costs more up front than pine or hardwood. As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Over ten or fifteen years, the saving on oil, sanding and time often closes that gap, particularly on a large deck. If you only want a small deck and enjoy looking after timber, hardwood may suit you better. There is a full comparison on the composite decking page.
We supply Ekodeck and Ezy Decking boards with the matching clips and trims, or install boards you have bought. If you supply, we will check that you have the right clips, end caps and fascia for the job.
Tell us the size and where the deck goes. We will bring samples, check the frame or site, and quote it supplied and installed or as install only. QBCC Licence No. 15620733.
