Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Our deck building process

  1. 01

    Enquiry and photos

Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.

  2. 02

    Site measure

We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.

  3. 03

    Written quote

You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.

  4. 04

    Build

Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.

  5. 05

    Handover

A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.

Residential and commercial decking around Jacobs Well

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

Footing options

Concrete pad or pier footings

The most common choice. A hole is dug to firm ground, concrete is poured and a galvanised stirrup is set in it for the post. Reliable on most ground, but it needs digging, concrete and curing time.

Screw piles

Steel shafts with a helix that are screwed into the ground with a machine or hand tool until they reach the required resistance. They can be loaded straight away, cause little mess and can work well in sandy or soft ground. They cost more per footing and need the right equipment.

Adjustable pedestals

For very low decks over a slab or compacted base. Not suitable for raised decks.

Choosing for the site

We look at the ground when we visit, and if the soil is soft, sandy or filled, or the water table is high, we may suggest deeper footings or screw piles. We do not guess. If an engineer is involved, they set the footing type and depth.

Low decks and drainage

On flatter blocks, decks often sit low. Water needs to drain away from under the frame, or the timber stays wet. We shape the ground, use ground-rated timber and leave airflow at the sides.

Wet weather and timing

Concrete footings need a few dry days to dig and pour. After heavy rain, holes can fill with water. Screw piles are less affected by weather, which can help keep a job on schedule.

Boards

Hardwood, treated pine or composite from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking all sit on the same frame types. More on composite decking.

Supply, install and cost

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Screw piles or deeper footings are itemised. We also install boards you supply. See decking.
