Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Residential and commercial decking around Parkwood

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

On a sloping block, the area under a deck often ends up as a dark corner full of old pots. If there's enough height, it can be storage, a bike park or a shady spot to sit. The trick is deciding early, because it changes how the deck is built.

Head height

For people to walk underneath, you need clear height under the joists, not just the boards. Bearers and joists can be arranged to give more clearance, and posts placed so they don't block the space.

Keeping it dry

Standard decking lets water through, which is good for the deck but not for what's underneath. Options include:

  • An under-deck drainage system that catches water and runs it to a gutter.
  • A sealed deck over a membrane, which is more complex and costly.
  • Accepting some drips and using it only for things that don't mind getting wet.

Screening

Battens or slats around the base tidy up the look and keep out leaves, while still letting air through. A door in the screening turns it into a lockable store. Leave airflow so the frame can dry.

Ground underneath

Bare dirt under a deck stays damp. Compacted gravel or pavers drain better and are nicer to walk on. On a slope, a low retaining wall can level part of the area. We also do paving.

Prices

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Under-deck drainage and screening are quoted as extras. Install only is also available. See timber decking.
