Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Our deck building process

  1. 01

    Enquiry and photos

Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.

  2. 02

    Site measure

We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.

  3. 03

    Written quote

You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.

  4. 04

    Build

Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.

  5. 05

    Handover

A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.

Residential and commercial decking around Worongary

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

Once you've decided on hardwood, the next choice is which one. The three most common decking species each have strengths, and the right pick depends on colour, budget and where the deck sits.

Spotted gum

Very hard and durable, with colour from pale grey brown to rich red brown and a wavy grain. It handles foot traffic well and has good natural durability above ground. It is often a top choice for exposed decks.

Blackbutt

Lighter golden tones that suit modern and coastal homes. Durable and fairly hard, and it comes in several grades. Our blackbutt decking article has more detail.

Merbau

Deep red brown and stable. It bleeds tannin when new, which can stain concrete and render below, so runoff needs managing for the first few months. Supply can vary.

Grades

  • Select grade has fewer features and a cleaner look.
  • Standard or medium feature grades show more character.
  • Feature grade has the most knots and gum veins and usually costs less.

Tannin bleed

All hardwoods bleed tannin to some degree when new. Washing the deck a few times before oiling, and protecting surfaces below, avoids most stains.

Prices

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Species and grade move the price within the hardwood range. Install only is also available. See timber decking.
