Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Our deck building process

  1. 01

    Enquiry and photos

Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.

    Site measure

We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.

  3. 03

    Written quote

You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.

  4. 04

    Build

Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.

  5. 05

    Handover

A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.

Residential and commercial decking around Bundall

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

Once the boards are down, running cable under a deck is awkward, and on low decks it can be close to impossible. If you think you may want lights or power on the deck, decide before we start. Cable can be run while the frame is open, and fittings set in the right places.

Types of deck lighting

  • Step lights set into stair risers make steps safe at night.
  • In-deck lights set into boards give a soft glow, best on edges and paths.
  • Post cap or balustrade lights mark the edge of a raised deck.
  • Strip lighting under a nosing or bench gives indirect light without glare.
  • Downlights or fans in a patio roof above the deck light the whole area.

Low voltage or mains

Many deck lights run on low voltage through a transformer, which is safer around water and simpler to run. Outdoor power points and fans run on mains power. All electrical work is done by a licensed electrician. We coordinate the timing so cable is in before the boards go on.

Placing fittings

We mark out light positions on the frame so fittings land between joists, not on them. Lights near the edge or on steps should not shine straight into eyes from a seated position. Power points are placed where the barbecue, heater or speakers will actually sit.

Boards and fittings

In-deck lights work in both hardwood and composite, but the hole sizes and clearances differ by product. With composite from Ekodeck or Ezy Decking, we follow the maker's guidance on cutting and clearances.

Cost and options

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Lighting and electrical are priced separately depending on fittings. We also do install only if you have your own boards. See deck builders and the decking cost guide.
