Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Our deck building process

  1. 01

    Enquiry and photos

Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.

  2. 02

    Site measure

We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.

  3. 03

    Written quote

You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.

  4. 04

    Build

Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.

  5. 05

    Handover

A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.

Residential and commercial decking around Nobby Beach

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

Why front decks are different

Backyard decks are mostly about function. Front decks are about function and appearance. They frame the entry, set the tone for the house, and usually face the street. Proportion matters: a front deck that is too narrow looks like an afterthought, and one that is too deep can hide the house.

Entry steps

The steps up to a front door get used every day, in the dark and in the rain. Wide, shallow steps feel welcoming. Each rise must be the same height. A handrail may be required depending on the number of steps. A step light or a contrasting nosing makes them safer at night.

Screens and privacy

A slatted timber or aluminium screen at one end of a front deck can give privacy from the street or a neighbour while still letting in breeze. Screens need to be fixed into the frame, and there may be height and setback rules near boundaries. We check before building.

Matching the house

On a beach cottage, a painted or oiled hardwood deck with timber balustrades suits the style. On a modern house, a composite deck with aluminium or glass balustrades usually looks cleaner. We look at the house before suggesting materials.

Near the coast

Close to the beach, use stainless fixings and coastal-rated hardware. Composite near the coast benefits from regular rinsing to remove salt. Hardwood greys faster in salt air if not oiled.

Replacing an existing front deck

Many front decks are original and worn. If the frame is sound, we can replace the boards and steps. If it has rot, we rebuild. See deck replacement.

Supply, install and cost

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Steps, screens and balustrades are priced on top.
