Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Our deck building process

  1. 01

    Enquiry and photos

Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.

  2. 02

    Site measure

We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.

  3. 03

    Written quote

You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.

  4. 04

    Build

Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.

  5. 05

    Handover

A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.

Residential and commercial decking around Palm Beach

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

Signs the whole deck needs to go

Some decks can be re-boarded on the existing frame. Others cannot. Full replacement is usually the answer when:

  • The bearers or posts are soft or have rotted at the base.
  • Footings have sunk and the deck has dropped or tilted.
  • Joists are undersized or too far apart for any modern board.
  • The deck was never built properly in the first place, for example with no fixing to the house frame or posts set directly in soil.

Taking the old deck out

We remove the boards, frame and old footings where they are in the way. Treated timber is taken away and disposed of properly, not burned. Old concrete footings are broken out if the new layout needs different post positions. If there is a balustrade or roof attached to the deck, we work out what can stay and what has to come down.

Rethinking the design

Replacing a deck is a good time to ask what did not work. Was it too narrow for a table? Did the stairs land in the wrong spot? Was it a step too low or too high at the door? Fixing these now costs little extra compared with the cost of the rebuild. Many people also take the chance to change from timber to composite to cut maintenance.

What we do differently on the new deck

  • Posts on galvanised stirrups above ground level, not buried in soil.
  • Joist tape on top of the joists to keep water off the timber.
  • Correct joist spacing for the board, checked against the manufacturer's guide.
  • Stainless fixings, especially closer to the beach.
  • Water directed away from the frame, with gaps where the deck meets the house.

Approvals on a replacement

A like-for-like replacement may not need approval, but a deck that is bigger, higher or roofed may. If the original deck was built without approval, that can also come up when you sell. We can point you to a certifier to check before work starts.

Boards and prices

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Removing the old deck is priced separately. We also install boards you supply. See deck replacement and the decking cost guide.
