Why choose Orange Projects

QBCC licensed builder

Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.

More than boards

We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.

Timber or composite

Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.

Existing frames assessed, not assumed

On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.

Fixed written quotes

You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Homes and commercial sites

We build and replace decks for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporates and commercial premises such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces.

Our deck building process

  1. 01

    Enquiry and photos

Tell us what you have in mind. Photos and a rough size help us tell you whether a site visit is the next step.

  2. 02

    Site measure

We measure up, check levels, access and any existing structure, and talk through timber or composite options.

  3. 03

    Written quote

You receive a fixed, itemised quote. If engineering, certification or approval may be needed, we say so up front.

  4. 04

    Build

Removal of any old deck, then footings, framing, boards, stairs, fascia and balustrades, built to the agreed scope.

  5. 05

    Handover

A final walk-through, clean-up and care advice for the boards you chose.

Residential and commercial decking around Tallebudgera

Alongside home decks, we take on decking for managed and commercial properties: outdoor customer areas for cafes and retail, office break-out decks, body corporate common areas, and replacement decks on investment properties for landlords and property managers. Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.

Some backyards stay soggy after rain. A deck can make that area useful again, but only if the frame stays out of the wet and the ground beneath can drain.

Footings

Posts should sit on stirrups above the concrete so they never stand in water. In soft ground, footings may need to be bigger or deeper. Screw piles are another option that can suit some soft soils.

Frame timber

Use frame timber rated for the exposure. Treated pine graded for ground-level use or steel framing are common choices. Steel frames suit composite boards and don't rot, though they need the right coating.

Drainage

  • Shape the ground under the deck so water runs out, not under.
  • Add an ag drain where water collects.
  • Keep downpipes from discharging under the deck.
  • Use gravel rather than bare soil underneath.

Height

Lifting the deck a little more off the ground improves airflow and keeps the frame drier, even if it means one extra step. Too low is the most common mistake on wet sites.

Boards

Composite from Ekodeck or Ezy Decking doesn't rot, which helps here, though the frame still needs care. Hardwood works with good airflow. See composite decking.

Prices

As a general guide, timber decking runs roughly $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700 per m² supplied and installed, depending on height, access, framing and finishes. Drainage work is listed separately. Install only is also available.
