Orange Projects holds QBCC Licence No. 15620733 and is fully insured for residential and commercial decking work.
We handle removal and disposal, footings, posts, bearers, joists, stairs, fascia and balustrades, so one team is responsible for the whole deck.
Hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum and Blackbutt, or composite boards from Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. Supply and install, or install only if you are supplying the boards.
On replacement jobs we check the existing structure before quoting. Framing is only reused when its condition and size suit the new deck.
You get an itemised, fixed price in writing after we measure, with stairs, balustrades and any engineering listed separately.

Residential and commercial decking around Burleigh Heads

Commercial work can be timber or composite, and is scoped and quoted the same way: measure, assess what is there, then a fixed written price.
Timber vs composite at a glance
- Look: hardwood is natural and varies board to board; composite is uniform, with a printed or embossed grain.
- Upkeep: hardwood needs oiling about once a year to keep its colour; composite needs washing a few times a year.
- Heat: both get warm in sun; dark composite gets hotter than most timbers.
- Repairs: hardwood can be sanded and re-oiled; composite scratches cannot be sanded out.
- Cost: composite usually costs more up front; the gap narrows over time if you count maintenance.
Who hardwood suits
People who like the look and feel of real timber, do not mind a weekend of oiling each year, and want a deck that can be refreshed rather than replaced if it gets marked. Spotted gum is hard and stable, with a lot of colour variation. Blackbutt is paler and more even. Merbau is a deep red-brown but can bleed tannins onto nearby concrete when new. Who composite suits
People who want low upkeep, have busy decks with kids and dogs, or have a deck that is awkward to maintain because it is high or large. Composite does not split or splinter. It does need cleaning, and it should not have rubber-backed mats left on it. We mainly install Ekodeck and Ezy Decking. More on composite decking.
Near the beach
Close to the coast, both materials need stainless fixings. Hardwood greys faster in salt and sun if not oiled. Composite collects a salt film and needs rinsing. Neither is a problem if you know what to expect.
What about the frame?
Both sit on the same kind of frame, usually treated pine or hardwood. Composite often needs joists closer together, which adds a little to the frame cost. If you are re-decking an existing frame, check the joist spacing before deciding.
Cost over time
Supplied and installed, hardwood typically runs $350 to $550 per m² and composite $450 to $700. Treated pine usually sits toward the lower end of the timber range but needs the most care. If you would pay someone to oil a hardwood deck every year, composite can cost about the same over ten years. If you enjoy doing it yourself, hardwood often comes out ahead.
